On August 8th, UNISFA handed over two fully completed water handpumps, to the Bokchop IDPs Camp and Nhom Akoon Village, during a ceremony held in the two villages. The event was officiated by OiC Ag HoM/FC, Brig General Aby Syed Mohammod Bakir and Mr. Noon Deng Nyok - Deputy Chief Administrator. Representatives of the local community and IDPs, were in attendance with a notable presence of women and disabled persons.

Brigadier General Bakir emphasized the importance of preserving and efficiently utilizing the water handpumps. He encourages the local community to explore the potential for small-scale farming. He also conveyed UNISFA's readiness to collaborate with the community and expressed a commitment to further support community projects.

The water pumps were funded through UNISFA’s Quick Impact Projects (QIPS). The water pumps will greatly assist the local population and the IDPs, particularly women and the disabled, by providing them access to clean drinking water. QIPs are small-budget and low-cost projects implemented within a short timeframe to establish and build confidence in the peacekeeping missions to address urgent needs in communities. To date, UNISFA has completed the construction of 64 water pumps in the Abyei Box.

The administration and the local community expressed their gratitude towards UNISFA for these initiatives, which not only fulfill immediate needs but also contribute to strengthening the rapport and collaboration between UNISFA and the local community.
