UNISFA Condemns the Murder of two Misseriyas in Abyei

Abyei, 08 January 2023. On 6 January 2023, a joint UNISFA search team, in collaboration with representatives of the Abyei Community Protection Committee (CPC), recovered the dead bodies of the two missing Misseriya traders, who were abducted on 30 December 2022. Both murdered bodies were found on the outskirts of Abyei Town, near Banton.
The OIC Acting Head of Mission and Force Commander, Brigadier General Abu Syed Mohammod Bakir and the entire Mission condemn this heinous act. Regrettably, such an act is committed at a critical moment where the search for peace remains the collective priority. There is a need for society to consider this act as pure criminality. We call on everyone to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to investigate, apprehend and prosecute perpetrators for justice.
The OIC Acting Head of Mission and Force Commander and the entire UNISFA family express their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the Government, and the people of the Republic of Sudan.
UNISFA is fully committed to the safety and security of civilians in the Abyei area and calls on all stakeholders to cooperate to ensure the implementation of the Mission’s Protection of Civilian mandate and its mandate in General.
