UNISFA sensitizes JCPC and Peace Actors on Mission’s Mandate

On 17 September, a UNISFA team comprising of the Civil Liaison and Public Information Offices, conducted a sensitization session for members of the Joint Community Peace Committee (JCPC), Joint Court, and Joint Protection Committee (JPC). Areas covered include UNISFA's mandate, Status of Force Agreement (SOFA), Peace Agreements, protection of civilians, negative effects of misinformation, disinformation and hate speech and how to create synergy between the local peace mechanisms, UNISFA and other peace actors in the actualization of the mandate.

Some 41 participants representing both the Misseriya and Ngok Dinka communities attended the session and raised concerns about UNISFA’s responsibilities regarding the protection of civilians, humanitarian interventions, security, and the provision of essential infrastructure. UNISFA stressed the importance of timely information sharing and reiterated that the task of protecting civilians is a shared responsibility among the state, UNISFA, and local peace actors.
