In a significant step towards to boost the Community Protection Committee (CPC) and the Joint Protection Committee (JPC) mechanism UNPOL officially launched uniforms identification cars for the CPC and JPC member in the sectors south and north of Abyei.

Dressed in their newly acquired uniforms and with a renewed sense of purpose the CPC and JPC members displayed their skills and professionalism during two separate ceremonies organized to officiate the new gear. The colorful events included parades, song and dance.

The CPC volunteer model was established by the UNSCR 2203 which mandated UNISFA to strengthen the capacities of the CPCs in order to assist with management of law and order in Abyei area. Despite working as volunteers, their contribution in maintaining rule of law in Abyei has over the yeas become increasingly invaluable, assisting UNPOL in their work and serving an early warning system against potential security threats.

The CPC and JPC have grown into a robust network of dedicated individuals committed to maintaining peace and addressing rule of law community concerns. They assist UNPOL in information sharing, investigations, and acting as an early warning system for potential threats.

UNPOL empowers the CPCs and JPC through capacity-building initiatives, community-oriented policing, mentoring, prevention of SGBV, monitoring of human rights violations in detention facilities and advisory support.
