Twic and Ngok Dinka Youth Leaders Reaffirm Commitment to Peace

In continuing efforts to support the Ngok and Twic Dinka youth-led peace initiative, UNISFA and UNMISS recently facilitated a virtual meeting between youth representatives from the two Ngok Dinka communities. The meeting followed the Wau Peace Workshop held in April 2025. It focused on advancing the implementation of the peace agreement signed at the end of that workshop.

The youth leaders reflected on grassroots efforts undertaken in Abyei and Twic County of South Sudan to rally support for the agreement including, peace rallies, inter-community dialogues, and the formation of joint monitoring committees. Participants celebrated the active role played by women whose leadership and advocacy they acknowledged had been instrumental in sustaining momentum.

The meeting also addressed challenges faced by leaders from both sides. Participants cited limited mobility, shortage of funding, and urgent humanitarian needs as key concerns. Despite these difficulties, they reaffirmed their determination to protect the progress achieved so far.

“We will not allow spoilers to derail our progress,” said one youth leader. “Peace is our shared responsibility, and we are committed to protecting it.”

The meeting concluded with a joint pledge to continue promoting the Wau Peace Agreement. Participants agreed to hold monthly virtual sessions to monitor progress, exchange updates, and reinforce collaboration.

UNISFA and UNMISS commended the youth leaders for their commitment. They pledged continued support to the youth-driven reconciliation initiative and efforts for lasting peace.
