INDBATT Equips Abyei Youth With vocational skills

UNISFA facilitates Human Rights Reporting Training for Abyei Media Practitioners

A skills development workshop for Abyei youth was organized by INDBATT in Rumajak from 21 to 29 June. The training aimed to equip the youth with practical vocational skills to promote self-reliance, expand livelihood opportunities, and socio-economic resilience. A total of 26 participants, including 9 females, participated in the training. Throughout the seven-day training, participants received both theoretical and hands-on practical training by Indian peacekeepers. The training focused on three vocational areas; motor vehicle maintenance, electrical (AC/DC), and welding.

The closing ceremony, held on 29 June was attended by the OIC Acting Head of Mission/Force Commander, Brigadier General Adebowale Ajagbe and senior mission leadership and the Chief Administrator, Justice Charles Abyei as well as Ngok Dinka Paramount Chief, Dr. Bulabek Kuol and representatives of the local community. The 26 participants who successfully completed the training were awarded certificates in recognition of their achievement.

In appreciation of INDBATT's contribution towards empowering the local community, the Chief Administrator, Abyei Special Administrative Area, presented a Letter of Appreciation to the Battalion for successfully conducting the workshop. The Paramount Chief INDBATT with a Letter of Appreciation, acknowledging its dedicated efforts in empowering the youth of Abyei through vocational skill development.

As part of the ceremony, selected participants demonstrated the practical skills they had acquired during the training and briefed the visiting dignitaries on their learning experience. The programme concluded with an interaction between the mission leadership, civil dignitaries, and trainees, reaffirming UNISFA's commitment to community empowerment, sustainable development, and strengthening trust and cooperation with the local population. The successful conduct of the workshop reflected INDBATT's continued dedication towards supporting peacebuilding efforts through meaningful capacity-building initiatives in the Abyei Administrative Area.
