The Ag. Head of Mission and Force Commander, Major General Ganesh Shrestha, today paid a courtesy call on the Juba-appointed Chief Administrator, Justice Charles Abyei, stressing his readiness to closely collaborate with the Administration for peace, security and stability in Abyei. The two leaders discussed pertinent issues affecting the Mission Area of Operation including the security situation, the presence of state and non-state armed actors and the construction of main supply routes, among others.
Major General Shrestha briefed the Chief Administrator on his recent engagements with authorities in Juba stressing that coordination between UNISFA and national and local authorities will be central to advancing UNISFA’s mandate during his tenure. “Your support is key to the work we do, and I look forward to working closely with your administration for the people of Abyei, the protection of civilians, and effective mandate implementation.”
Justice Abyei welcomed Major General Shrestha to Abyei Box and extended his appreciation for UNISFA’s continued close collaboration with the administration and the Abyei community. He affirmed his commitment to working closely with the mission to ensure peace and security in Abyei and to address emerging issues.
At the end of the meeting, the two leaders agreed to engage regularly on pertinent issues
