UNISFA Reinforces Protection Measures After Violence Displaces Civilians

UNISFA has reinforced protection measures in south-eastern Abyei following the recent attack in Abiemnhom, in South Sudan, located about eight kilometers away from Abyei. The attack displaced hundreds of civilians, mostly women and children, who have fled into Abyei, and has heightened tensions in the area. UNISFA peacekeepers immediately deployed to protect civilians and have intensified patrols.

The mission is closely coordinating with Abyei authorities and local leaders to help defuse tensions and restore calm. These efforts are being carried out in coordination with UNMISS.
