Bangladesh Peacekeepers Awarded UN Medals for Service in UNISFA

Bangladeshi peacekeepers serving with UNISFA were this morning awarded UN medals, in recognition of their service. Acting Head of Mission/Force Commander Major General Ganesh Shreshta, who presided over the medal parade at the mission HQ, commended the peacekeepers for their professionalism, discipline and dedication.

“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to each of you on this well‑deserved honour. Wear this medal with pride. It represents your contribution to peace, security, development, and hope for the people of Abyei. You have brought pride to your nation, strengthened the mandate of UNISFA, and above all, contributed meaningfully to the noble cause of sustaining peace in Abyei,” said Major General Shreshta.

He highlighted their courage and resilience, particularly following the Kadugli drone attack last December. Despite the challenging circumstances, BANBATT-4 maintained command and control, protected UN personnel and assets, conducted casualty evacuation, and ensured continuity of operations.

BANBATT-4 was deployed to UNISFA on 8 November 2025 and has continued to support the Mission's mandate and the Joint Border Verification and Monitoring Mechanism (JBVMM), contributing significantly to peace and stability in the Abyei Area and within the Safe Demilitarized Border Zone.
