UNISFA bolsters joint patrols and community engagement in southern Abyei, amid security concerns
UNISFA troops from Ghanbatt, Indbatt and Pakbatt have intensified joint patrols and community engagement in areas in southern Abyei in efforts to restore peace and security in the area which has experienced an increase in conflict, prompting the collaborative effort to restore peace and security.
The joint foot and vehicle patrols are reinforced by targeted aerial patrols. The patrols, conducted mainly in the general areas Athony and Agok, as well as other regions facing security challenges, play a vital role in building trust, promoting dialogue, and strengthening relations with the local community to mitigate tensions in Abyei. By actively patrolling and interacting with local populace, UNISFA seeks to foster an environment of trust, encourage dialogue, and strengthen relationships to alleviate tensions within the Abyei area.
Colonel Mohamed Al Achhab, UNISFA Force Chief of Staff, emphasized the success of the Confidence Building Patrols: "The successful execution of the confidence building patrols exemplifies UNISFA's resilience and dedication to fulfilling its mandate, especially in the face of ongoing security challenges.
