UNISFA investigates incident following intrusion into its camp in Abyei
Abyei, 25 June 2024 - The United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) is investigating an incident at one of its camps on June 23, 2024, which resulted in the death of one person and the injury of another.
In the early hours of June 23, an alleged intrusion attempt occurred at one of the UNISFA camps in Abyei. Despite repeated warnings, the intruders attacked peacekeepers, escalating the situation, and necessitating the use of force. UNISFA personnel swiftly provided medical assistance and transported the individuals to the Level-II hospital to ensure they received immediate and appropriate care. Unfortunately, one of them succumbed to injuries on the way.
We extend our deepest condolences to the families affected and reaffirm our commitment to transparency as we investigate this matter.
UNISFA is also engaging with Juba-appointed administration and community leadership on this matter.
