UNPOL rolls out initiative to restore law and order in Abyei
In continuing efforts to promote rule of law and restore traffic orderliness in Abyei, has launched a project to equip the traffic unit of the Community Protection Committee (CPC) with key road safety tips. This initiative, which is prompted by an increase in road users and traffic accidents in Abyei town, is part of a broader strategy to boost public safety and increase awareness among pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.
A road safety training was organized by UNPOL on 22 July. Eight CPC members and some 20 community members attended the program which focused on the role of the CPC traffic unit, emergency response and, enforcement and adherence to road safety. CPC members were encouraged to promote road safety awareness within the community.
An additional training on road markings and the installation of pedestrian crossing signs was conducted for the CPC members. Community members also received training on traffic rules, with simulations of common traffic accident scenarios.
