In Abyei, access to basic services such as water can mean the difference between peace and conflict, and a classroom can restore dignity among community members. UNISFA funded Quick Impact Projects(QIPs) - small, impactful initiatives designed to address immediate community needs - are making a difference among local communities and contributing to peace and security.
To date, 183 QIPs have been successfully delivered across communities in the southern and northern parts of Abyei, benefiting thousands of men, women and youth and expanding access to essential services, improving rule of law situation as well as strengthening stability and improving livelihoods.
Implemented since 2011, QIP projects have been critical in delivering tangible benefits to the local community by strengthening livelihoods and resilience, refurbishing essential services, supporting peace processes and supporting the provision of rule of law and rebuilding trust among communities. Each year UNISFA disburses USD 750,000 for QIPs implementation.

Responding to immediate and long-term needs
QIPs are small-scale and low-cost, rapidly implementable projects, which are designed to respond to urgent needs in the community. These projects are funded by UNISFA and are implemented within a short time frame. They respond to the needs expressed by local communities. As a result, they cover a wide range of activities, from refurbishing a school/ health facility to providing women with safe water access points. QIPs are mainly implemented through local authorities, non-governmental and grassroots organizations. These projects are funded for a maximum cost of US$ 50,000 and are implemented in 6-month duration.
They are critical for building confidence in the peace process and promoting support for Mission-mandated tasks. They are also key to addressing immediate needs of the population. All the projects are planned, executed and handed over in consultation with key community stakeholders, including the local community, NGOs and UN Agencies Funds and Programmes.
