600 peacekeepers receive UN peace medals

About 600 men and women of Ethiopia’s Multi Role Logistics Unit, Light Field Engineering, Tank and Artillery Company, Military Staff Officers, Military Observers, as well as UN Police serving with UNISFA received the United Nations Peace Medals in a ceremony held on 12 December in Abyei.

“Your services have been valuable to the attainment of UNISFA’s mandate. The Peace Medals presented is, therefore, the United Nations gratitude and appreciation to you all for your commitment, sacrifice, and hard work,” said Brig Gen Gebrekidan Yebiyo, the OiC Head of Mission/Force Commander (HoM/FC).

“I congratulate the officers, men and women of Multi Role Logistics Unit, Light Field Engineering, Tank and Artillery Company for their impeccable turnout and outstanding drill displayed this morning. I am aware that your performance today epitomizes the performance of Military Contingent from the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, who are noted for their professionalism, precision and seriousness.”

During the ceremony, UNISFA gave posthumous awards to three Ethiopian peacekeepers who died while serving the mission.

General Gebrekidan advised medal recipients to maintain discipline and professionalism for the remaining period of their service with UNISFA, “I recommend that you finish your tour of duties well so that your family will be proud of your achievements.”
