Abyei Kicks Off Activities in Observance of International Youth Day.
On August 12th, Abyei's youth, in collaboration with UNISFA, organized the inaugural event to commemorate this year’s International Youth Day. The event, held at the youth union, marked the commencement of a week-long series of activities organized under the theme "Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World, spotlighting the vital role of youth in engagement and leadership, particularly for an environmentally sustainable and climate-resilient friendly community.
Attendees included representatives from Youth Committees representing Abyei's four counties (Alal, Aman Agwok, Rumamier, and Mijak), along with the Director General of the Ministry of Education and Youth, UNISFA, and partners like Concordis International.
Speakers underscored the indispensable role of youth in enhancing security and resilience in the Abyei area and also called on the youth to embrace the significance of agriculture in attaining self-sufficiency.
UNISFA representatives underscored the significance of youth empowerment initiatives and committed to work in close collaboration with the youth representatives in enhancing skills and building capacity.
Throughout the week, various activities have been organized, including workshops in Abyei and Diffra, a drawing competition, and sporting and cultural events. These will culminate in the main celebration on August 19th.
Every year, on the 12th of August, the global community comes together to celebrate International Youth Day. This annual occasion serves as a dedicated day of awareness and action, recognized by the United Nations (UN), to address pertinent issues affecting the world’s youth population.
