08 Nov 2019 - An unknown armed group launched an early morning attack on the Ngok Dinka village of Miodol, 29 kilometres north-east of Abyei town, killing seven persons, (four males and three females all Ngok Dinkas) on 7 November 2019. Two male Dinkas were wounded in the attack while two others were abducted by the gunmen. -
16 Jul 2019 - The United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA)’s Acting Head of Mission/Force Commander, Major General Mehari Zewde Gebremariam, strongly condemns the unprovoked attack by a group of unknown armed men on UNISFA peacekeepers providing security at the Amiet market in which one Ethiopian soldier was killed and another critically wounded.

28 Mar 2019 - A three-day conference jointly organized by United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), FAO and IOM ended yesterday in Todach 18 kms north of Abyei mission Headquarters. A total of 85 participants from both Ngok Dinka and Misseriya communities including 14 women representatives attended the conference.

27 Mar 2019 - Four Dinka women kidnapped on 22 March while they were out to fetch thatch grass at Tol Mach few kilometers from Abyei town have been rescued by the Ethiopian 21st Battalion. The rescued women were yesterday handed over to the Ngok Dinka Paramount Chief at a ceremony at the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) Headquarters in Abyei.

17 Feb 2019 - United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres announced on 8 February 2019 the appointment of Major General Mehari Zewde Gebremariam of Ethiopia as Force Commander of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA). He succeeds Major General Gebre Adhana Woldezgu of Ethiopia who will complete his assignment on 23 April 2019. The Secretary-General is grateful for his tireless dedication, invaluable service and effective leadership of UNISFA.

10 Feb 2019 - An Ethiopian military helicopter registration Number UNO 379P with 23 passengers on board has crashed today at around 1310H inside the compound of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) killing three of its crew members.

16 May 2018 - The Security Council on 15 May 2018 decided to extend, for six months, mandates of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) relating to the delivery of humanitarian assistance and the protection of civilians, among others, while also underlining that its tasks relating to the contested region’s Joint Border Verification and Monitoring Mechanism would be extended no further unless the parties to the dispute accelerated progress in several key areas.

21 Feb 2018 - The attention of United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) is drawn to a news story carried by Radio Tamazuj under the caption “UNISFA bows to local pressure, fires engineering department head,” and credited to the Ngok Dinka paramount Chief, Bulabek Deng Kuol, alleging that Mr. Laith Haddadin, UNISFA’s Chief Engineer, was fired for employing foreigners to do casual work instead of members of the local community. This allegation is factually incorrect.
