  • 16 May 2018 - The Security Council on 15 May 2018 decided to extend, for six months, mandates of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) relating to the delivery of humanitarian assistance and the protection of civilians, among others, while also underlining that its tasks relating to the contested region’s Joint Border Verification and Monitoring Mechanism would be extended no further unless the parties to the dispute accelerated progress in several key areas.
  • 06 Apr 2018 - United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres announced the appointment of Major General Gebre Adhana Woldezgu of Ethiopia as his new Force Commander of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA).
  • 21 Feb 2018 - The attention of United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) is drawn to a news story carried by Radio Tamazuj under the caption “UNISFA bows to local pressure, fires engineering department head,” and credited to the Ngok Dinka paramount Chief, Bulabek Deng Kuol, alleging that Mr. Laith Haddadin, UNISFA’s Chief Engineer, was fired for employing foreigners to do casual work instead of members of the local community. This allegation is factually incorrect.
  • 23 Sep 2017 - Assistant Inspector of Police Annah Chota from Zimbabwe has received the International Female Police Peacekeeper Award for her service and achievements in the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA). The award was given at the International Women and Law Enforcement Conference in Cairns, Australia on 18 September.

    23 Jul 2017 - 23 July 2017 | Abyei  - The United Nations Interim Security for Abyei (UNISFA) calls for restraint and calm among communities in Abyei Area following the violent incident on 22 July 2017 along the highway of Todach to Goli, some 27 kilometers from Abyei town, that left eight civilians killed and one person injured. UNISFA expresses its deepest condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims.
  • UNISFA Acting Head of Mission and Force Commander meets with the Ngok Dinka and Misseriya community leaders to discuss the peace and security situation in Abyei area and the peacebuilding efforts in the region.

    12 Jul 2017 - The United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) condemns all attacks perpetrated by unknown armed groups in Abyei Area which resulted in deaths and injuries of civilians.  
  • 28 Jun 2017 - The United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) facilitated the retrieval and handing-over of the 58 stolen herd of cattle to the rightful owner, a Ngok Dinka pastoralist, on 26 June 2017 in Todach village, 17 kilometers north from Abyei town.
  • 14 Jun 2017 - As part of the continuing efforts to reduce the impact and risk of explosive hazards in Abyei, United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) on 12 June 2017 conducted another destruction exercise of confiscated weapons and ammunition.  
  • 24 Feb 2017 - United Nations Secretary-General  António Guterres announced the appointment of Major General Tesfay Gidey Hailemichael of Ethiopia as Force Commander for the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA).  He succeeds Major General Hassen Ebrahim Mussa of Ethiopia, who completed his assignment on 17 January 2017. The Secretary-General is grateful to Major General Mussa for his dedication and effective leadership of UNISFA as Head of the military component. 
  • 15 Sep 2016 - The Force Commander /Acting Head of Mission of Mission for the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), Major General Hassen Ebrahim Mussa, announced at a town-hall meeting at the mission’s Headquarters in Abyei that his administration will give top priority to staff welfare, safety and security as well as to building excellent relationship with staff members.
